Our customer
Founded in 1961, Spinneys has grown from a single supermarket in Deira, Dubai, into one of the leading supermarket chains in the Middle East. Their first customer was HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, marking a significant milestone. Over the decades, Spinneys expanded across Dubai, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah, adapting to the UAE's rapid economic growth. Key milestones include launching Spinneys Fresh Food Industries (2011), Spinneys Central Bakery & Deli (2013), and spinneys.com (2020). Spinneys is more than a retailer; it has built a community-driven brand committed to high-quality products, sustainability, and local engagement. Today, it operates an extensive store network across the UAE, Oman & KSA continuing its legacy of excellence.
Initial situation and customer requirements
Spinneys success within the UAE market and expansion plans across the GCC required a new regional distribution centre. Its unique challenge: to be flexible to pick single and cased items for stores of all sizes. The system needed to be flexible to allow for increasing SKU counts and seasonal and promotional changes.

The BITO Solution
Full and Half Pallet Storage
» Designed for bulkier and faster-moving items, these storage areas were equipped with mesh decking and adjustable dividers for optimized shelf organization.
Small Parts Picking Shelving
» To accommodate a high-density SKU volume with slower-moving items, BITO implemented small parts picking shelving in combination with XL EURO containers.
Carton Live Storage for Fast Movers
» For smaller, faster-moving items, BITO provided a Carton Live storage system. This solution allows easy, low-level picking and replenishment while adhering to the First In, First Out (FIFO) principle—ideal for stock rotation and reducing waste.
Customized Identification and Workstations
» BITO also delivered tailor-made racking identification labels and operator stations. These ergonomic and space-saving stations efficiently store printers and operator desks.
Safety and Protection Solutions
» A comprehensive safety concept was implemented, including:
- Custom-designed safety barriers, such as A-Safe guards, low-level forklift barriers, personnel walkway barriers, and machinery guards.
- Floor painting for operator safety, clear area segregation, and forklift aisle demarcation.
Flexible Product Line Labeling
» Self-adhesive label holders were provided, allowing for quick modification of product line IDs—perfect for Spinneys’ constantly evolving product range.
