To keep productivity and efficiency in the warehouse at the highest possible level, disruptions must be avoided or dealt with quickly. Despite the urgency of the situation, employee safety always has top priority. This is why BITO has developed the PLS Access Kit for safe access into pallet live storage systems (PLS). One PLS Access Kit – four benefits: The equipment kit enables safe access into the lanes for troubleshooting, repair, maintenance (e.g. on the FlowStop load separator, on brake rollers, load rollers, in-feed guides, etc.) and cleaning. The operator can either walk directly into the affected lane, for example to clean rollers in the event of product spillage, or access the trouble spot via the neighbouring lane to safely unblock pallets that got stuck. In all cases, operators must secure themselves with a fall arrest system comprising a body harness, a BITO easyHOOK and a twist-lock carabiner that must be fixed to a safe anchor point. In a second step, the operator places a "starting board" into the lane to cover the rollers and access the FlowStop load separator which must be blocked. Using connecting boards, the operator will lay out the lane up to the point of disruption. If a pallet is involved in an incident, it is secured with a blocking device for light-duty or heavy-duty applications to make sure it cannot move and injure the operator. Now the actual cleaning, maintenance or repair work can start.
 

Safety approved by independent institutes

The PLS Access Kit has been developed in close cooperation with the Employer's Liability Insurance Association for
Trade and Freight Logistics (BGHW) and the German Statutory Accident Insurance (DGUV). The harness anchor points have been tested and approved in accordance with DGUV standards. In addition, a number of access guidelines were drawn up and adopted.
